draining week for us. Please be aware details and photos below may be a bit to graphic for some. As some of my very loyal customers may know this information already, I would like to Thank you for praying and trying to lift our spirits. We will now tell you our story. It Began with the passing of 2 of our very dear adult males... Java and Bear (can be seen on the In Loving Memories Page). They both have puppies listed on our puppies page at this time. In their situation, they had very tragic accident that we would not like to get into great detail on. We miss them very much and are extremely heartbroken over their passing, they have been taken to our vet to be cremated. Then in the same day Lady (can be seen on our Retired Page) went into labor roughly about a week and a half early. We always have Xrays done on our girls as most of you know and with her going into labor that early we hadn't had an Xray yet and no idea how many puppies she was expecting. The evening of July 20, 2009 she delivered 5 beautiful babies. Labor then stopped and she got up to go potty and such. The next day we moved her to the puppy room where we can properly care for our moms and babies. All day she did great, nursed her babies and was active. That evening Lady started to take a sudden turn for the worse. She was away from her babies, acting non-responsive, vomiting, and temp very low. I had no choice but to rush her to the Emergency vet at 10pm, knowing that it is $85 alone just to walk in the door. They evaluated her and decided she needed an Xray to see if their were any retained babies, give her fluids to help hydrate her and take blood to run a "Comprehensive Chemistry Profile" of where all of her levels were at. We agreed to what they have suggested as they gave a detailed estimate cost of $607 for the above work to be done on her. I was ok with this as we all want to do whatever we can do to save our babies (pets) so I signed the estimate agreement. First they did the Xray and found we have 2 retained puppies, so now they give me 2 options. #1 give her Oxitocin to push her back into labor, #2 skip Oxitocin go in for C-section, both of course once she was stable. Her blood profile showed that her protein, glucose, and white blood cells, etc. counts were all at dangerously low levels, they then started her on IV fluids immediately. They instructed me that there was nothing I could do as they had to keep her to give her fluids to get her at a stable point before they could think about getting the 2 retained babies out. They sent me home with the understanding they call me with any and every detail. At about 4:00am they called me that they had to resuscitate her and now continue with IV fluids as there has been no change and her body is not taking the fluids as she should. Emergency vet closes at 7:30am and that is the time they asked me to pick up Lady to take her to our normal vets office. I get there and they present me with a bill of $1644.00. I was floored. When I left I agreed to $607, then without any signed agreement they now charge me over a thousand dollars for fluids. Last year we were at the Emergency vet 7-13-08 for a Csection and the bill was $1500 then, I can't understand how fluids can end up costing more than a Csection??? We have a Care Credit Card (pet care) so the total of $1644 was placed on the card (since of course they must have their money before you can leave with your pet). I then rushed her to our vet, and they continued her on fluids until about noon, and then planned for Csection. My vet thankfully let me be there for the surgery, as I desperately wanted to be there just in case Lady did not make it, I had to be there for her. Shortly after starting the surgery we discovered that Lady's uterus had ruptured open like a balloon (see photo). We get the 2 retained puppies out to notice they
began to decompose in Lady's system and not in the uterus where they should be. She must be Spayed. We bladder etc. are all caked with the green stuff you see in the photo, this is what has set her body in shut down mode and caused inflammation and infection in her entire system. After seeing this we had no guarantees that Lady will survive. She had to stay at the vets office for a few days, but that night my vet planned to go back to check on Lady around 10pm, again she was nice enough to call us to come up at that time to visit with Lady. Thank goodness she is showing improvement already. So our vet said in the morning if she continues to show improvement, she can go home on antibiotics. Thursday July 23, 2009 was a very emotional day for us. We did get the news that we could bring Lady home which was good but at the same

time bring Java and Bear into the office to be sent off for cremation. Lady is now home with us, and improving slowly, but we are staying positive. We are still in constant care with her babies as they are premature. Lady is unable to nurse them, so Chili which had her babies July 19,2009 just 1 day before Lady has taken them on as her own. This is putting added stress on Chili as well, we are helping out by nursing the babies in between to help Chili out. Please keep Lady, Chili and The puppies in your thoughts and prayers.

of our babies, we are asking for support/donations from Friends, Family, Customers, or anyone that this has touched. We strive to do all we can for our dogs, puppies and customers. This was a very unexpected situation and it has us at rock bottom. I do understand how this may be perceived so much money and now they are asking for more" or "Who do they think they are". Trust me the scenarios have gone through my head, but I think our love for our dogs show in them and those of you that have experienced it can understand where we are coming from here. We are only asking for what ever you can spare, $5, $20, whatever it doesn't matter, anything will help. We have opened a separate account for this and any Checks or Money orders can be made out to: CRYSTAL'S DACHSHUND CROSSING 11043 McFadden Ave. Englewood, FL 34224 Anyone that sends us a donation, we would like to add your name to the bottom of the page (of course with your permission) with great appreciation. If you would prefer to stay anonymous we are happy just to list "Anonymous". Thank you for your support! UPDATES 7-28-09... We planned to keep a Chocolate n Tan dapple female that Lady had born and the little girl passed today. With being a preemie we had expected this. All other puppies are still doing good. 7-31-09...Lady had her stitches removed and a check up. And she is doing surprisingly well considering what she went through. She will have monthly checks for awhile to ensure she is still going strong. 8-7-09... We got results on an Autopsy we had done on one of our dogs, and no foul play was present, passed of natural causes.
